By "AppleShare server" I mean any computer that serves files using the
AppleTalk and AFP protocols. In my case, the servers included the peer
to peer sharing built in Mac OS X and the third party servers
("Services for Macintosh") provided in NT4 and Windows 2000.

I can talk directly to the Mac OS X shared volumes. Have you made the
changes in NetInfo manager to enable file sharing over AppleTalk?

In my experience a seed router is only needed with M$ Windows servers.
It solves a problem where the IIgs can't see the server at all in the
AppleShare control panel. As you can see your Mac OS X server and start
to log in, this can't be your problem.

Check out the info at http://www.euronet.nl/users/mvdk/osx.html and try
connecting to OS X from an old Mac. Once that is working you should be
able to connect from the IIgs. You'll be able to transfer flat files
to.from the server but you won't be able to use forked ProDOS files ;-(
